Title:  Marketing Scientist 

Location: Westlake Village, CA

Reports to(title): Senior Director,Analytic Center of Excellence


The Role:  As a Marketing Scientist in theAnalytical Center of Excellence, you will design survey research studies,analyze and interpret the results on syndicated research studies that measurecustomer satisfaction.  Your job is to work closely with other researchersand scientists in the development of survey questions, methodologies, samplingplans and analysis plans.  In addition, you will perform statisticalanalysis on survey data and interpret results for business users.


The Impact: You will support syndicated studies whichaddress industry level consumer needs and serve as customer satisfactionbenchmarks in a variety of industries such as Automotive, Financial Services,Insurance, Energy and Telecom. The outcome of your work will be used by clientsto help them understand what is important to consumers, how their brandperforms relative to their competition, what their brand needs to do to improveand the financial benefit of making these improvements.



  • Research Design and Review: Support JD PowerBest Practices in study design including survey and sample planning. Advise on study design.  Create analysis plans and survey questioncontent.
  • Analysis and Statistical Modeling: Performmultivariate statistical analysis on survey data using SAS. 
  • Data Interpretation:  Interpret results forindustry analysts and business users. Present results in accessible formats(e.g., presentations or whitepapers).
  • Consultation:  Provide survey methods andstatistical consultation to internal JD Power teams as well as externalclients.  Provide interpretation of study results. Provideresearch/analytical support for new business opportunities.
  • Thought leadership: Working in collaborationwith other team members develop, test, interpret and present research on newand innovative approaches, methods or technicians that can we applied to theadvancement of our business


  • PhD in Psychology, Statistics or related socialscience fields
  • 3 years research experience (surveydesign/analysis)
  • Travel, some overtime and weekend work isrequired as needed.
  • An advanced understanding of MultivariateStatistics, Research Design, Measurement Theory, Attitudinal Research
  • Statistical packages—SAS (preferred), SPSS
  • Must be able to work effectively andcollaboratively in a team oriented, global, and multi-cultural environment.

The Team / The Business:  The Analytical Center of Excellence hasglobal responsibility for the research design, analyses planning and executionof all advanced analytics at JD Power.  Additionally, the team isresponsible for establishing and monitoring the adherence of research bestpractices that serve as the basis for quality of all research products at JDPower.  Our role is critical to the success of not only individualstudies, but to the strength and credibility of the JD Power brand.  Youwill report directly to the Marketing Sciences Sr. Director and join a team ofhighly educated and enthusiastic researchers and statisticians that collaborateregularly with each other and with other teams across the firm.
